a career for my next life

January 13, 2009

I think all of us have the desire to do something else with our careers if we had the chance. A fireman perhaps? Or maybe a clown with the circus? Something more serious, like a writer?

Over the past years, my secret career desire has been graphic design. I have long admired the skills as well as the creative talent needed to work with the Adobe CS Suite. When an opportunity presented itself a few months ago, I decided to dive in and teach myself. And it has been a wonderful experience! While I am not ready to make a shift in my career, I am having a blast learning something new.

James David Cellars released their first wine, a Muscat Blanc, last month with the label I designed! I was fortunate to travel to Paso Robles to watch the bottling process and it was a very cool moment for my personally. It has been fascinating to learn about the wine industry.

My only problem has been my obsession with looking at wine labels. I stalk the aisles at the Supermarket to see what others are doing, seeing how I could differentiate the labels I have designed. Boyfriend even purchased a wine cooler for all the wine we have amassed in the past months. No need to have good wine go bad sitting on the shelf in our storage closet.

James David Cellars will be releasing a number of wines this year including: Syrah, Muscat Blanc, Pinot Noir and others. I plan to share the designs as they are approved. Visit James David Cellars for updates on releases as well as where the wine can be purchased.
